Sustainability is an important pillar for our company. We supply window coverings and sun protection in project environments such as hospitals, public buildings, and offices. In these environments, reliability, material quality, and durability are key. That is why we are taking conscious steps to make our products and our business operations increasingly sustainable.
An important step in our sustainability strategy is sourcing materials closer to home. Fabrics are woven and processed in Europe as much as possible. This limits transport, reduces the carbon footprint, and makes quality control more realistic. Our rail systems already contain 75% recycled aluminum. Part of the production takes place in the Netherlands. Scrap aluminum is reused locally, melted down, and processed into high-quality profiles. This allows us to maintain the strength, durability, and accuracy of our systems.
At JEWEL, we select materials based on performance and environmental impact. We are increasingly using fabrics made from recycled yarn, such as polyester from PET bottles. A blackout fabric that we previously supplied in conventional polyester is now available in a version made from 92% recycled yarn. In addition, we are developing fabrics without PVC and including fabrics with reflective backs (such as aluminum coating) in our range. These properties significantly reduce heat in buildings, leading to lower energy costs.
We provide solutions that combine beauty and functionality. Good interior sun protection can reduce indoor temperatures by 4 to 5 degrees in summer. The use of external sun protection often offers a difference of 7 degrees. This translates directly into less use of air conditioning and a better indoor climate. In every project, we advise on the solutions that best suit the situation: technical requirements, appearance, maintenance, and sustainability.
We are aware that sustainability is not a one-off event, but a continuous process. Our sustainability manager actively monitors developments in the field of certifications, material innovations, and production processes. We are also investigating ways to provide transparency about the CO₂ impact of our window coverings. Together with our suppliers, we assess the origin of raw materials and the conditions under which fabrics and components are produced. The goal? To make increasingly environmentally responsible choices without compromising on quality or safety.
